Year 5

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have finally reached Term 4, the last term of the academic year. In English, students are focusing on Poetry as their text type. They have been writing some creative poems in class and have been encouraged to share them with their friends and family at home. In Maths, we have been working on money and percentage problems. Throughout the term, we will also cover mass, graphs, order of operations and decimals. In Integrated Studies, we are currently learning about space. In particular, how/why the planets orbit the Sun. Students have a project related to this topic that is due on the 9/11/2018.

For the first three weeks of this Term, we have had the pleasure of having a student-teacher in our classroom. Mrs Karissa Wilson joined us on the first day of school and she has been taking classes in a variety of subjects like Literacy/Comprehension (Eucalyptus Trees), EMM (Maths), planetary orbits (Science) and guided reading sessions. She has been a positive and helpful resource and students have really enjoyed her lessons. Overall, she has been a wonderful addition to our class.

On Wednesday 10th October our class, alongside Mrs Kokta’s, participated in the Interschool Athletics Carnival with the other Year 5 classes around the Goulburn Valley. Most students attempted each activity and tried their best. In particular, I would like to congratulate Sibel, Mahnoor and Ibrahim for their wonderful behaviour throughout the day. You really represented our school well and should be proud of yourselves. Well done!

I wish us all a happy and productive semester.

Kind Regards,
Miss Funda Avan
